This month we are getting to know Meredith Jessica from Pigments and Palettes! I’m loving the gorgeous, colourful makeup looks she creates. I hope you guys go check out her blog and give it some love! 🙂
How did you first get involved with blogging?
I was originally sharing all my makeup pictures just on my personal facebook account and I figured my friends were probably getting sick of seeing me post pictures all the time. So starting a blog was the best way for me to find like minded people who wouldn’t mind seeing pictures of my eyes all the time. Lol.
What do you find most challenging about blogging about beauty/makeup?
Too many posts and not enough time! If I had an update for every crazy idea or look that I wanted to try I wouldn’t have time to eat, sleep or even breathe. I think the other thing that I really struggle with is trying to constantly challenge myself and try new things. I see so many crazy creative and talented artists out there and it’s so easy to fall into a trap of comparing yourself and thinking you’ll never be that good or unique, etc. That’s the quickest way to settle into a boring, uncreative comfort zone and it definitely happens to me all the time.
How would you describe your signature makeup look?
When I look at my collection of looks all together I start to see how much I love a well blended slightly monochromatic look with an accent color, lol! No matter how hard I try, I always come back to that kind of look. I’m crap with eyeliner so I spend all my time working on perfecting my blending skills.
What made you first fall in love with makeup?
I was on StumbleUpon one afternoon and came across MakeupGeek.com. It was the first time that I saw a whole community of people who all cared about and were interested in the same things as I was. I didn’t have to be shy or ashamed about loving makeup and that support really fostered my love for the art and made me want to learn and get better. It made me want to inspire people the way that those people inspired me.
Are there any particular celebrities or bloggers that you’re looking to for beauty inspiration?
Celebrities not so much, but bloggers yes. I listed all my favorite sources of inspiration two questions down 🙂 They inspire me constantly!
Beauty without intelligence is like a masterpiece painted on a napkin.
BAH! I can’t believe I can only pick three!! I could easily list like 100! But, If I had to narrow it down, in no particular order:
Veronica of Bows and Curtseys: I know Ronnie quite well now and honestly, she exemplifies the kind of creativity and skill that I am always striving for. She has such an artful way of combining colors and her looks always have me saying to myself “Damn! I wish I’d thought of that!!” I’ve been following her blog from the beginning and she has never bored me once with her creations. Each one is better than the last and that’s what keeps me reading and supporting her in all that she does. Great artist. Great blogger. Great person. Triple threat!
Sonja of Beautiful Life of the Girl Next Door: Sonja is a very talented blogger and artist, but what I admire about her most is her infallibly positive and loving spirit. She’s a young mother with a beautiful family and even though she just found out she has Stage 4 colon cancer at age 26 she has never wavered once. She’s as strong as ever, already calling herself a survivor. She’s got such courage and grace in the face of something that would destroy most people and she’s still creating stunning looks even going through chemo! I hope someday I can have her kind of character.
Karolina of grzee.blogspot.com: I don’t know Karolina as well as the other ladies on this list but I am OBSESSED with her blog these days. She’s got to be one of the most naturally stunning bloggers out there and her talent is outrageous. She does things I’ve never seen before and makes them look effortless. If one day I can create a look that’s half as good as her Catalunya look (http://www.grzee.blogspot.ca/

If someone was interested in blogging, what would be a few things you would suggest?
Learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable. Be okay with putting your whole self out there and knowing that not everyone is going to love what you do. Do it anyways.
When you’re starting out, friend as many bloggers as possible. Don’t just follow people, really befriend people, ask them questions and collaborate with them
Always be trying to improve. You should hate the things you did when you first start out. If you still like a look you did a year from now, you’re not growing and getting better.
Love what you do. Love it with conviction and without shame.
Question from last month’s featured blogger:
What are your top three favourite beauty products that you just can’t live without?
1. Revlon ColorStay Foundation
2. FAUX Lash false lashes in Sasha
3. Sugarpill Burning Heart Palette
What is something you would like to ask next month’s featured blogger?
What’s your all-time favorite post on your blog and why?
Thanks Meredith for your great answers!!
I hope you all enjoyed this interview 🙂 Make sure you check out Meredith’s blog!!
