This month our focus is on the beautiful Sonja from The Beautiful Life Of The Girl Next Door. I love this girl, not only is she amazing at makeup but she also has such a wonderful personality, is super sweet and is an incredibly strong person.
Please go check out her blog, you will love it…and today is Sonja’s 27th BIRTHDAY!! So go over and say happy birthday to her 🙂 xx
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m a 26 year old stay at home mom. I have an amazing daughter and husband. I love makeup. I really love that you can completely transform people with it. I think it’s awesome how you can make people look completely different with just a little makeup. I’m also fighting stage four colon cancer right now. I’m hoping for a short but victorious battle with it.
How did you first get involved with blogging?
I started by posting on Makeup Geek. There was this one girl who ALWAYS said, “when are you going to start a blog?” so that inspired me to look into it. It took a while for me to actually do it because I thought no one would care about what I had to say.
What do you find most challenging about blogging about beauty/makeup?
Coming up with new looks. I have a comfort zone and it’s hard for me to push out of that.
How would you describe your signature makeup look?
Smokey. Either full on porn star smokey eye or a more subtle outer v smokey.
What made you first fall in love with makeup?
When I realized I could make my bad skin look not as bad!
Are there any particular celebrities or bloggers that you¹re looking to for beauty inspiration?
Heck yeah! So many! Celebrities I’d have to say Jennifer Lopez, I always like the Kardashian’s makeup, Eva Longoria, people who aren’t afraid to go dark and smokey! And for bloggers, I have so many favorites! I love Meredith Jessica from Pigments & Palettes, Ronnie from Bows & Curtseys, Dawn from Makeup by Siryn, Kassie from Unique Desire, Mandy from Prettymaking, I could just keep listing them all day long…
What is the most important beauty advice that you can give to your readers?
Don’t be afraid to try new colors or color combinations. People get so scared of colorful eyeshadow that they don’t realize what it can do for you.
Ok time to share the love, list your top three favourite bloggers whom you look up to and why?
It’s hard to pick a top 3. So in no particular order I’ll have to say Mandy from Prettymaking
because her looks are never too over the top but they still make you want to look at what she did, she does amazing swatches too. Ronnie from Bows & Curtseys
because she almost always does dark yet colorful looks that are really smoldering and sexy. And then Meredith Jessica from Pigments & Palettes
because she does such a variety of looks that are so well done, you never know what kind of look she’s going to post next.
If someone was interested in blogging, what would be a few things you would suggest?
Get a good camera and learn how to edit pictures well (something I definitely still need help with!!). The better your pictures are, the more people will be drawn to your blog. Don’t over edit your pictures either.
Question from last month’s featured blogger Meredith Jessica
What are your top three favourite beauty products that you just can’t live without?
The top 3 beauty products I can’t live without… in general: foundation, mascara, and blush. More specifically: Maybelline Dark Circle Eraser, ELF blush/bronzer duo, and Maybelline Super Stay 24/7 concealer.
What is something you would like to ask next month’s featured blogger?
If you had to choose one eyeshadow palette to use for the rest of your life what would it be?
Thank you Sonja for agreeing to be interviewed on my blog 🙂
Wishing you all the best with your fight with cancer, I know God is watching over you and keeping you strong 🙂 xx
See Sonja’s latest update post on cancer and her birthday 🙂
Happy Birthday! x
