Paris! Jour 1

Bonjour!

Je suis tres fatigue! Aujourd’hui je marchais et marchais!!

I walked for around 8 hours again today….I got home at 8.30pm and it is broad daylight! Now, it is 9.12pm and the sun is only just starting to go down; amazing! I’m so tired though so I am looking forward to the darkness so I can feel it’s ok to go to sleep haha.

I am going to book a ticket tonight to climb the eiffel tower tomorrow night! Since the sun doesn’t go down til like 10 I’m going to try book the ticket for around 9pm and then I’ll stay around and wait til 10 when the lights on the tower are turned on!

Typing this post…I love my room!

Jour 1:

Charles de gaulle airport!!

Charles de gaulle airport!!

I arrived in Paris at 5am, 40 minutes ahead of schedule but it took 2 hours before I got out of the airport! My driver Michael was waiting for me with a sign “Miss Morien Chloe” haha. Because it took so long for me to get out of the airport he was running late for his next appointment so he drove a bit like a maniac! I thought I was back in Bali haha. He was very friendly though πŸ™‚

As we neared the city I noticed that Gypsies were camped on the side of the FREEWAY! I was like “say whaaaat?!” That aint allowed in Australia ha. They aren’t very good at cleaning up so there was quite a bit of rubbish in some areas.

I arrived at my destination around 7.40am. Said au revoir to Michael and entered the apartment building. there is a lift to the third floor but it literally will only fit 2 people in it…there is NO way on earth I’m getting in that thing. So I just carried my luggage up to the third floor via the stairs. They are so narrow that it was quite difficult to get a suitcase up there; how on earth do they get furniture up these stairs???

My host Arianna met me at the door. She showed me to my room and then gave me a tour of the apartment. It’s three bedrooms, a dining room/loungroom, a kitchen, toilet and a bathroom. It is tiny…about the same size as my downstairs living area!! I will take pictures of the apartment tomorrow πŸ™‚

Arianna had had a late night so once she showed me around, gave me the keys she then left me to unpack and went back to bed. I just sat on the bed for a bit then texted family and friends. I did think about going to sleep but that felt like such a waste of a day! So I unpacked, had a shower and then headed out to try out the metro and see Paris!

About to head out on my first exploration of Paris!

le metro!

le metro!

Le Metro!! Wow what a maze! I actually got a handle on the metro system straight away. It’s really simple to work out. So feeling quite pleased with myself I waited at the platform for the train to arrive. My gosh! It was the loudest most rattliest thing I have heard! It was literally terrifying hearing that train come through the tunnel haha. The doors are also terrifying, they are very loud and clunky and you have to press a button to open them.

Well, I then nearly experienced a heart attack as at the next stop a man got on board. He had a bag with him and once he got on he slowly looked around the train and smiled (it was scary) and then he sloooowly started pulling an object out of the bag…I was staring at it; I saw a long wooden handle and I thought “my god it’s a gun…wait no it’s a small cross bow! OMG I am going to be killed” I seriously thought he was pulling out a weapon and was going to shoot everyone on board! I was sitting right in front of him so I would have been the first shot…I just stared up at him in sheer frozen terror…and then he pulled it out and it was a small violin with a horn attached to it so the sound is magnified Β and he started playing cool french music….( i swear it really did look like an old wooden cross bow been pulled out!! You had to be there to see it haha). It took me so long to recover from that ordeal haha

I got off at Cluny la Sorbonne and then walked to the Jardin du Luxembourge. By this time I was really not feeling Paris at all haha.

Most of Jardin du luxembourg was this sandy/pebbly terrain. This did not help my already unimpressed view of Paris. I expected it to be lawn everywhere!

Being rebellious and stepping on the grass!

Being rebellious and stepping on the grass!

There was only Β one section of lawn that people were allowed to sit on….I saw a bench that I wanted to sit on and the short cut was to walk across some forbidden grass. I put my feet on it and half expected a voice to start shouting at me over a speaker system (like in Princess Diaries haha) but nothing.

Smug selfie because I walked across the forbidden grass haha

Came across this pretty little water feature. There was loads of chairs around it so I grabbed one and sat down for a a bit. It was a nice relaxing place to sit.

Once I left Jardin du Luxembourg I just wandered the streets for ages! I just kept going further in and finding small back streets. I came across a million pubs and small cafes. I went into one store which sold loads of jewellery and scarves. The sales assistant was pretty and she thought I was french so started talking to me in French. I understood what she was saying but got tongue tied and couldn’t even remember how to speak in English!

Tartlettes des fruits! It was lovely

I stopped at a cafe on Rue des ecoles…the menu was in French and English so I thought I would be ok to order from there. I went in and out of habit I treated it like I was Dome cafe in Perth where you go to the counter and order and pay and then your food is brought to you. It’s the other way round in France ha; you take a seat, order, then pay last. So I confused the poor lady at the counter and then I realised she didn’t really speak english. A french customer helped out by asking if I was dining in or take away and then explained that I need to find a table and the lady will come to me. I sat at a tiny table and at my raspberry and custard tartlette, drank my orange juice and read my french phrase book. It was so nice! Sitting under big shady trees and a gentle summer breeze blowing and people watching.

I had been out for like 6/7 hours so decided to head back to the apartment and sleep. Half hour later I was at the door about to burst into tears because no one was home and I couldn’t open the door! I sat on the stairs for a while in despair. I had had no sleep for 30 hours and then walked around for 7 hours…I was so exhausted, I hated everything haha. I decided I hated Paris and that I just want to leave already πŸ˜›

I have no sim card so couldn’t phone my host. I sent her an email but didn’t know when she would check it…so I decided I would have to go out again. This time I walked around my neighborhood. I came across a big park and lay in the sun for a while, walked around it, sat on a bench and people watched, wandered the streets and about an hour or so later hobbled back home. Thankfully Arianna’s boyfriend was back at the apartment so he let me in and showed me how to open the door!

Exhausted!

Finally home! I collapsed into bed, snapped a selfie πŸ˜› sent a few texts to friends and family and then (hoping that I would feel better in the morning) fell asleep for 12 hours….a somewhat broken sleep as my street is so noisy and people were walking/yelling til at least 1am (these frenchies like to stay up late ha) but it was a deep sleep when I was asleep.

And so ends day 1!!

I shall sign off on this post and start typing up today’s adventures!!

Au revoir xx
