While showering this week I tried out something new with coconut oil and in light of this I decided that I would do a post on what I use coconut oil for!
~ Shaving Cream ~
Yes you read that right, shaving cream!!! I had a “nooo, that surely won’t work!” reaction when I read about this on another blog so this week I decided to try it out and whaddaya know! It works really well! Normally the blade really irritates my skin and makes it feel super sensitive and itchy even while I’m shaving! With the coconut oil my blade glided smoothly, I didn’t feel it at all on my skin. No redness or itchiness when I got out of the shower – just super smooth lusious pins 😀
A couple tips:
- After every second or third “stroke/shave?” rinse the blade in the water otherwise it gets clogged up.
- Make sure to just spread a THIN layer of coconut oil on your skin so as to not clog the blade and to ensure that it actually cuts the hair.
~ Cooking ~
Nom nom nom. Coconut oil is the bomb for cooking with. I love the nutty flavor it infuses into my food.
My easy go-to meal is roast veggies. Chop up your veggies into small chunks then spread chunks of the oil around the tray along with Nuttelex Olive, although I have just discovered that they do a coconut version now, and a nice sprinkling of Murray River Pink Rock Salt then plonk in the oven for half hour or so. Soooo good! I’m getting so hungry just writing about this haha.
If you are wondering what Nuttelex is – it is a vegan alternaltive to butter (tastes better in my opinion too). I’ve been using it for years:
- Dairy & Lactose FREE
- Gluten FREE
- Nut Oil FREE
- FREE FROM Artificial Additives
- Soy FREE
- FREE FROM Animal Ingredients
- Cholesterol FREE
- Free From Genetically Modified Ingredients
~ Makeup Remover ~
Legit the best makeup remover EVER! It literally melts the makeup on your face. I rub a small amount between my fingers then gently rub onto my eye makeup and then the rest of my face. Keep massaging the oil in until all makeup is a black smudgy mess on your face then use a natural cleanser to remove the oil et voila makeup gone!
~ Body moisturiser ~
Towards the end of my shower I slather the oil from my legs up and on to my face then lightly rinse off et voila! Nice smooth, lovely smelling skin. I find that just doing that alone helps stop my skin from looking all dry and scaly. I still moisturise my face with a cream moisturiser as I have really dry cheeks and forehead.
~ Where to buy? ~
I buy mine from Coles in the health section – you can also buy from health stores.
What to look for:
- Virgin Coconut Oil
The brand I’m currently using is Planet Food. I also use the ECO brand which I got from Coles as well.
What do you use coconut oil for? Let me know in the comments below. I’m yet to try it in my hair or oil pulling…as anyone tried it? I would love to hear from you!
