Reviews-day Tuesday: Limecrime Venus Palette

Hello darlings ♥

Today I’m reviewing the Limecrime Venus Palette!

I bought my palette from www.dollskill.com because let’s face it, we all know how notoriously slow the shipping is from the actual Limecrime website! Plus shipping from DollsKill is free if the order is over $100 which mine was. Link to Venus Palette on DollsKill http://www.dollskill.com/venus-eyeshadow-palette.html

Described as:

Mash Botticelli’s classical painting with the rebellion of the early 90s, and you get VENUS: The Grunge Palette.
In a sea of nude palettes, VENUS emerges with 8 game-changing, unconventional newtrals and rusty-reds. Full-sized, recklessly pigmented eyeshadows mesh flawlessly for a nu-grunge look with a soft, painterly finish. Beautiful mirrored box with kitschy artwork makes this palette the ultimate collectible artifact!

Packaging:

photo 3 (9)
Can we please just spend a minute frothing over this packaging!!! ♥♥♥♥  It’s sooooo beautiful. It’s so classic but with a grunge twist. It doesn’t feel cheap and plastic-y, it’s actually quite solid and has some weight to it. I love how Limecrime even framed the mirror inside the palette! Even better is the fact that LC placed the palette in a plastic box so that they sit lower down in the outer box (a box within a box…inceptionnnnnnn), this helps prevent the mirror and the beautiful packaging from being covered in eyeshadow dust plus it ensures the gorgeous shadows remain unharmed.

Swatches and thoughts:

photo 4 (2)

Left to Right: Muse. Divine. Rebirth. Icon. Creation. Aura. Shell. Venus.

VENUS: The color of bruised fruit AKA ‘marsala’ (velvet matte)
I haven’t used much of this shade yet however I love it and will be using it in future looks!

SHELL: Opalescent shell-pink (glow)
As above 🙂 soft pink-y tone with a pretty sheen. Probably not a color that I will use that often but still love it.

AURA: Pearlescent ivory (glow)
My least favorite color from this palette – it swatches beautifully but when applying to the eyes it’s quite chalky, falls out on the cheeks and comes out a bit too yellow for my liking…I still use it for a brow bone or inner corner highlight but defs not my go-to highlight. I haven’t used it a lot – I’m going to try placing it on my lid and see if I like it better 🙂

CREATION: Rust brown (matte)
Love. It’s the perfect red/rust brown. I use it in my crease either on it’s own or underneath Icon or Muse.

ICON: Dark brown (matte)
Another favorite. This is great alternative to black for darkening up your crease.

REBIRTH: The color of an over-ripe nectarine (matte)
Again I haven’t used this colour much and it is a pink-y tone which I rarely use. Need to play around with it to see how I would work it into a look.

DIVINE: Dusty stone (matte)
This is my favorite! I’m in love ♥ Im not a big fan of greys and cool tone shadows (red, browns, bronzes all the way! 😛 ) but this is the perfect grey/taupe as it has a slight brown undertone.

MUSE: Deep burgundy red (matte)
As with all the other shades, this one is super pigmented and creamy. I adore burgundy reds, this one has scooted up to top of the fave list. I haven’t used it much yet but I know I will! ♥

Rating:
5 out of 5 ♥

Would I buy again?
Yes I would! At $42 it is a little pricey but I think it’s worth it – the shadows are so creamy and so very PIGMENTED. Most likely the palette will be discontinued long before I need a replacement anyway as a little bit goes a long way. I hope that LC end up selling the colours individually so that I can stock up on my favorites hehe.

Let me know if you have this palette and what you think of it! Or are you planning on buying it? I would love to hear from you guys x

Much love to you all!

Review: NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams

Hey lovelies!

Today I’m swatching my NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream collection. I only have 5 so far but I know that I will be buying more!

Overall Opinion:

I love these lip creams! They feel so velvety when first applied and then dry to a soft matte. I find that they don’t dry my lips out and the colour lasts until I eat – so if you don’t eat they will last most of the day 😛 Oh and they smell so yummy!

I really don’t have anything negative to say about these lip creams! I think I will end up with most of the colours haha

The Nitty Gritties:

Buy from:

  • Target.
  • Various stockists – do a google search to find a site that sells NYX in your country or ships to your country 🙂

Price: $12.95 from Target.

Shipping: Depends on what website you buy from.

If you are in Australia you can’t buy from the NYX website however here is the link to the lip creams so you can check out the full colour selection!

photo (1)

Left to right: Monte Carlo – Amsterdam -San Paulo -Buenos Aires -Stockholm

photo 3 (2)

Stockholm: Nude peach – I love this colour! It suits my natural lip colour perfectly.

photo 2 (1)

Buenos Aires: Still peachy nude but with less brown tone than Stockholm.

photo 1 (1)

San Paulo: Adore this colour! It’s a pink with a slight red undertone, it came up more pinky-purple in the photo.

photo 3 (1)

Amsterdam: Lovely balanced red not too warm, not too cool. Another favourite.

photo 1 (2)

Monte Carlo – Darker red with a slight pink tone to it.

photo 2 (2)

So who else has just collated a listed of colours they’re going out to buy on the weekend? I’ve been on a big online shopping spree lately so I have to wait a while ’til I can buy more colours 🙁 haha.

Have a great weekend!

p.s. makeup tutorial coming soon! I am currently uploading to YouTube as I write this post 🙂 x

Review: My Arbonne Lip Products

For this week’s Friday In Review I am going to swatch and review all the Arbonne lipsticks that I own plus my two favourite Arbonne lip glosses.

photo (1)

Lipsticks:

Jam – A favourite with my mother of the brides and mature clients as this brings nice colour to your face…and makes your teeth look really white!

photo

photo (3)

Candy – This is one of my favourites from Arbonne. It’s a bright pink with a slight purple hue to it.

photo (4)

photo (5)

Coral Reef – Another favourite. I used to wear this colour almost every day! It looks nice on everyone and compliments most eye makeups.

photo (6)

photo (7)

Satin – I have barely used this colour and today I questioned myself as to why! It’s actually really nice. I would say it’s a light pinkish-purple with brown tones. I think I’m going to start using this for my bridal clients.

photo (8)

photo (9)

Vintage Rose – It’s not a colour for everyone but it does look really good if you have purple hair! I used to wear it a bit when I had lilac hair…now that my hair is back to purple/pink/blue I am going to start wearing this shade again.

photo (10)

photo (11)

Strawberry – I really like this shade. I love how white my teeth look when I wear it.

photo (12)

photo (13)

Scarlett – is very similar to Jam. I can’t really tell much difference between the two, I think that Scarlett has a tiny bit more of a brown undertone than Jam and I find that it applies more evenly straight from the tube than Jam does.

photo (14)

photo (15)

Bordeaux – This shade seriously confuses/weirds me out ha ha. It’s the weirdest colour ever. It’s purple-y but has this weird golden olive in it and for some reason the gold showed up on the centre of my lips and the purple on the outside…it’s like ombre lips in a tube! This is one of my least favourite shades.

photo (16)

photo (17)

Rose Petal – J’adore! This is such a pretty colour! When I want to go nude on my lips I like to use Rose Petal instead of going with a concealer nude as it doesn’t wash out the face. I’ve used this on my brides a few times.

photo (18)

photo (19)

Shell – Another colour that I don’t like. I just don’t like yellow nudes in general. I think that they make the wearer look dead! I pretty much never use this shade but I keep it in my kit for those clients that want the concealer nude lip look.

Lip Gloss:

Coral and Posh

Swatches Left to Right:

Coral – gloss. Posh – gloss. Shell. Rose Petal. Bordeaux. Scarlett. Strawberry. Vintage Rose. Satin. Coral Reef. Candy. Jam

The nitty gritties:

Buy from: https://www.arbonneinternational.com.au/shop_online/showCatalog.asp?category=154

Price: $37 each (retail)

Shipping will cost around $10 and takes about week to arrive.

Overall 0pinion:

Positives:

I really like Arbonne lipsticks. They stay on quite well -especially if you use a lip liner -, super creamy and easy to apply. I like how pigmented they are. All the shades have a sheen to them, there are no mattes in this brand.  My favourites are: Candy, Rose Petal, Satin and Coral Reef.

As for the lip glosses – I highly recommend them. They are super pigmented but not sticky like some glosses are and they smell yummy!

Negatives:

They are a tad pricey (in my opinion but I am a cheap skate 😛 ) but if you are a VIP client you get 20% off everything so that makes the products more affordable.

Being so creamy/shiny, the darker colours do bleed a bit if you don’t wear lip liner. The lighter shades don’t need lip liner and they don’t bleed.

That’s it from me today! I would love to hear what you guys think of these lipsticks – have you tried any? What’s your favourite colour? 🙂

Have a great weekend!!

Review: Tamanna – Anastasia Beverly Hills Palette.

Welcome to Friday in Review 🙂

Each Friday I will be reviewing a new product or my favourite product of the week! I am trialling this as a weekly segment however if I feel that once a week is too often I will change to once a month. I would love to hear some feedback on this segment! Do you want weekly or monthly reviews? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

Let’s start this week’s review with the new(ish) Anastasia Beverly Hills palette from her collaboration with Tamanna from Dress Your Face. Tamanna is one of my favourite artists! I have been following her on Instagram for a while now and am always inspired by her beautiful Arabic wedding looks.

I actually wasn’t going to buy this palette until I saw Tamanna use it in one of her online makeup classes and the colors looked gorgeous! As these palettes are limited edition I made a rash decision to buy myself one while I still could.

I snapped some pics of the palette and swatches for you guys! Under the swatch pictures you can read my review on each colour. Apologies for the fact that the pics are a bit small! I think I deleted the ones I took off my phone so I can’t re-upload bigger size pics! If you click on the pics they will pop up in box and you can use your keyboard arrows to scroll through the pics.

I was impressed with the Get the Look cards that came with the palette. Such a good idea!

So with each color I swatched over the Urban Decay primer and on bare skin so you can see any differences. I am happy to report that these eyeshadows don’t really need a primer to increase pigmentation, most of the shades look the same on primer and bare skin…of course I always use a primer to enhance the staying power of eyeshadow but I know that some people do not use eye primers so I wanted to show how the shadows look both ways.

4

Left to right:

Gilded – Shimmer bronzy gold shade. I think this will be a shade that I use quite a bit! Pigmentation on point!

Venezia – pretty shimmer blue. Great pigmentation but it is a colour that is made in every brand so it’s not a very individual colour.

Blush – shimmer champagne. I have similar colors in other brands but still a good one to have in a palette for inner corner highlight!!

Fresh – matte light pink/white tone shade. Perfect for highlighting the browbone! Will be using this one a lot.

5

Left to right:

Chocolate – Matte chocolate brown. The only shade that needs a primer to show up opaque.

Bengal – Camel? Orange? brown with a little shimmer. I really like this one. Again nice and pigmented.

Sangria – Cranberry purple/pink. I love this shade! Great pigmentation.

Custom – Shimmer taupe/grey. Nothing out of the ordinary but still a lovely shade that will look nice with all eye colors. Awesome pigmentation.

6 Left to right:

Noir – matte black. Pretty good pigmentation and nice and dark…came up better over a primer.

China Rose – gorgeous shimmer rose gold. One of my faves from the palette.

 The nitty gritties:

From: www.anastasiabeverlyhills.com

Palette is $29 USD

Total cost with shipping and conversion to Australian dollars: $56.16

Shipping time frame: Thoroughly impressed with the shipping time! I received mine on a Sunday (!) morning one week after purchase.

Overall opinion:

I really like the palette – I love warm tones, especially for dark eye makeup so this palette is perfect for that. Love the range of colors in it and that all of the shades have a really good pigmentation. For $29 USD I think it’s a great buy. My only real negative is that a few of the colours are shades that every brand has so you will end up with dupes of other colors you probably own…however there are some gorgeous shades that I think make it worthwhile buying.

Look out for my review next Friday, I will be featuring a couple Arbonne products!!

Until my next post,

Chloe x

Bridal Makeup Trials: What to Expect

PicMonkey Collage

I’m in the middle of the wedding season and since I’m booking in loads of wedding makeup trials right now I thought I would do a post on what to expect at your trial!

Having a trial is the time to get to meet me in person and spend time with me determine the perfect look for your wedding day. A trial will take us about an hour and a half…this gives us time to discuss the dress, style of your wedding, look through the pictures you’ve brought and then create the look.

Before the trial I’ll ask you to email me with pictures of makeup looks that you would like to try. Some brides have a clear idea of what they want…Grace for example (Pictured above), she saw one of my makeup looks and decided that was the look she wanted. Nice and easy for me as I knew exactly what products to use haha.  Most brides have some idea of what they want but if you don’t that is totally fine, I will ask you questions on the day that will give me an idea of a look to try on you 🙂

I used to always travel to my clients’ homes for trials but these days I have a lot more work on so I now hold all trials at my house…however if it’s too hard for you to come to me then please let me know and we can work something out!

Over a cup of tea/coffee/water/wine 😛 we’ll discuss the wedding, makeup pictures you’ve brought along, jewelry and bridesmaids gowns.

Then the fun part starts! 🙂

10560314_796236277063360_7451737949051216364_o

Once your makeup is finished I will hand you a mirror and hold my breath while you take your first look! 😉  I will sit down and let you have a good look at the makeup…this is the time to point out any areas that you would like altered. Don’t be afraid to say if there is something you aren’t quite happy with, that’s what the trial is for! It’s to spend time trying different things until you are 100% happy 🙂 Through experience I now do the eyes a little lighter than requested and then go darker from there…so much easier to add darkness than take away! 😉

Cassie - 2013

If you are happy with the makeup I’ll take a couple photos for reference on the wedding day and set your makeup with a setting spray. I’ll  run through my Makeup Agreement, deposit details, time I need to arrive and finish by etc. Finally I write down everything that I used so I will remember on your wedding day. I will make a list of products that you might need for touchups on the day (for example: blotting powder, lip products, etc). I can provide wedding touch up kits so please ask me at the trial about it 🙂

Tips for your trial:

  • Please arrive with your face washed and moisturised so I have a nice clean canvas to work with.
  • Don’t be shy about voicing what you want. I’m here to create the look you want, not a look that I want 😉 Bring pictures of a look that you are interested in trying out so that I have a visual of what you like.
  • Be honest. I want YOU to be completely happy with the look I create, I want you to look in the mirror at the end and think/say “It’s perfect, just what I wanted!”. So please do feel free to let me know if there are any changes you would like.
  • It’s not essential but it does help if you have your hair trial on the same day so then you can really visualise how you will look on the wedding day.

That’s it from me today!

If you want to inquire about making a booking please go to my contact section and send me an email 🙂

Lots of love,

Chloe xx
